This had been on my mind for a long time… ever since the JNNURM buses were introduced in Kolkata. So these somewhat more appealing to the eye buses came with electronic destination boards (specifically the rear ones). Most were made of a low resolution LED grid.
To top it all, what had me aghast was the fact that these boards has three displays that would come one by one.
The first would be the name of the company that was running the service.
The second would be the words “Thank you”. How polite.
Finally the third would be the actual bus number and destination.
So between the three displays and the time it would take to switch between them, the actual destination showed up for only a quarter of the time.
Do we never stop and think of what is really required?
